Friday Feast One Hundred and Sixty Nine

Appetizer
What was your first “real” job?

My first job was at Thom McAn shoe store in high school. I applied to probably every store in the mall and the manager, Ozzie gave me the job. It wasn't too bad and I stayed for a few years, helped open the Galleria store and worked 12 hour shifts on Saturdays and worked every Sunday. My friend Cindy also worked there so we would call each other for "shoe checks".

Soup
Where would you go if you wanted to spark your creativity?

I would go to the photography exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I went with my sister-in-law Terri a few years ago and I really enjoyed all of the photographs. Probably could have spent all day in that section and it definitely makes me want to grab my camera.

Salad
Complete this sentence: I am embarrassed when…

I have to be confrontational. For some reason, I feel apologetic and never handle it well.

I am also embarrassed to show photos relating to the dessert topic.

Main Course
What values did your parents instill in you?

Diligence and being a reliable employee. The importance of education and acting confident (many times I am not confident, but I can act that way).

Dessert
Name 3 fads from your teenage years.

Only three??? I lived in the height of the 1980's-there were SO MANY.

-I remember wearing a huge hoop earring with an actual key dangling from it on one ear ala Janet Jackson (yes, Cindy and Jeff can attest to my Janet Jackson Control phase). I had different color keys to match my outfit.
-I remember matching my socks to my shirt, wearing the socks outside of the pants, scrunched up and then I remember buying shoes two sizes too big so that I could wear THREE pairs of socks layered over my stretch acid wash jeans. They also matched my Jordache purse.
-I had more than one jersey t-shirt, which you went to the kiosk in the mall, flipped through the huge displays and added some cute picture or dumb saying (gag me with a spoon). I had a sparkly kitten and my name was lettered on the back.
-I also had all of the horrendous hairstyles to match my fashion sense. I haven't scanned those photos into the computer, but someday I'll post them.

hehe, I'm laughing at your fads. Too funny! I wore the scrunchy socks too with hightop Reeboks! And I'm the same as you on the embarrassment.

Have a great weekend!

You are not alone when it comes to 80s fashion. I too wore several pairs of socks. I too had sky-high hair. I too had the whole preppie-look thingie going. Though I did NOT know that you had the Janet Jackson key-hoop-earring thing going, complete with different colored keys!! That is SO IMPRESSIVE!!!! I must say, I am viewing you with a new found respect. That is some serious commitment to a fashion trend. "CONTROL... Never gonna stop!!! CONTROL... Now I'm all grown up!!!" I'm glad you didn't continue the Janet trend up to the "wardrobe malfunction" fiasco, though.

I agree with super aunt suz, very impressive that you had keys to match-and I can attest to her puffy hair (she had the eighties and being from long island to contend with- not good for the hair)

Have a great weekend!
