Thankful Post 5

Yes. I am two posts behind. In my defense, I was ready to catch up on posting last night, but Blogger was not working! Really!

I have to head off to work in a few minutes, so it will not be until this evening to really be grateful.

But my thankful post today is for the simple lightbulb that the our occupational therapist turned on for us yesterday afternoon. She sat with us for an hour and a half working with Connor, trying different techniques to extract language and increase communication. He did respond with a few meltdowns, so she was able to see how he becomes frustrated and what he does.

We talked to her about trying to get him to choose items with signs or gestures. She suggested finding something he does want and give him a choice of a completely opposite item. The example would be JUICE or SPONGE. Connor easily made the choice of juice. Baby steps. The babiest of baby steps. We just didn't know what they were.

We also spent a few hours at the autism support group last night. Again, we learned so much and came home with a brightly lit lightbulb.

I am grateful to have a starting point.

Good for you; even better for Connor! Sure it's a baby step -but we all start the learning process in that manner and be thankful for the fact he's able (obviously) to discern! So many little things gonna come your way with him -some even so minute you won't notice them immediately and then, poof, all of a sudden you realize he realizes! So many things -yes indeedy - for which we all can be oh so thankful aren't there!
God bless - and PEACE! He's gonna do fine.

Yeah for Connor making decisions!! I let him have another easy decision this weekend, to play with fun Aunt Terri, or to do anything else:) Can't wait to see you guys.

Take joy is all the baby steps! It is amazing how they can add up to flights of stairs!

Yeah! one more time
